About the Orchard
Like the farmhouses of the sun-drenched Tuscan hillsides, like in The Orchard is carefree, warm, and inviting. It all started in the 1700's in Barbados, when the friuts known as the Shaddock and sweet orange were either intentionally or accidentally cross-pollinated to produce what became known as "the forbidden fruit."
Because it grew in large grape-like clusters, the name was eventaully changed to "grapefruit" (Citrus Paradisi). It was eventually exported around the world, to the warmer climates of Europe - Italy and Spain, and to North America - Florida and eventually California.
For years, the land of this Indio Community was nurtured as the grapefruit orchard, and when the executives of Family Development first saw this place, they were reminded of the picturesque Southern European countrysides where grapefruit orchards can be seen. Because of this vibrant memory, The Orchard offers four model homes unlike anything ever seen before in the Southern California area; with each resident architecturally inspired by an Italian or Spanish farmhouse found within the orchards of Tuscany and Southern Spain.
Close your eyes, listen for that old Italian gentleman playing his happy accordion tunes of long ago, an inhale the sweet fragrance of the Citrus Paradisi. Life is carefree, warm, inviting. Life is The Orchard.
